I just had an amazing summer vacation, binge-reading a stack of novels I’d been wanting to read for a while but simply couldn’t get to. That’s because I tend not to read other author’s books while I’m writing one of my own. There are a few reasons for that. When I’ve been working with words all day, I like to give my eyes a rest and enjoy a different sort of visual entertainment.  TV fits the bill perfectly after 9pm. I also prefer to stay in my own story world so that my characters remain at the forefront of my mind. Books–especially good ones–tend to be a distraction. They can pull me out of my own story zone and slow down my momentum. A one hour television program is far less taxing on my imagination.

But on to the fun stuff. Here are images of the books I’ve read so far this summer. Clearly I’ve been a lady of leisure!

My top three favorites were THE LETTER, by Kathryn Hughes, BIG LITTLE LIES by Liane Moriarty, and BEFORE WE WERE YOURS by Lisa Wingate. I highly recommend those three, but all of these books were terrific reads and I enjoyed each one for different reasons.

Please leave a comment on my Facebook page if you’d like to recommend something for me to read in the next few weeks before I get back to work!
